What Are Hydraulic Machine Presses?

Business Blog

If not for hydraulic machine presses, much of what people take for granted like architecture and airplanes would not be possible. For example, much of the architectural sheet metal that builders use when constructing is created by hydraulic presses. These machinations mold, crush, thin, and even straighten metal.

Metal in all of its various forms and compounds is not easily malleable. Metal requires various methods to alter its form. Hydraulic machine presses help this process by manipulating the density of metal and its shape.

How It Works

Inside the hydraulic machine presses are two pistons and two cylinders, with one being substantially larger than the other.  Fluid will be poured into the smaller cylinder, and the larger cylinder holds the metal.

The process begins when fluid is poured into the smaller cylinder. The piston presses into the cylinder forcing the fluid down. The pressure of the fluid reaches the larger cylinder, lifting it along with the metal on top. The larger cylinder lifts the metal up to a metal plate designed to alter the metal's shape. This is when the metal will either be cut, punctured, or bent. If not for the pressure from the fluid, this process would not work.

Functions

The hydraulic press is also called the Bramah Press due to its invention by Joseph Bramah in 1795. Since that time, these machines have grown in their usefulness for society from architectural buildings to planes.

An important distinction to make between the hydraulic presses and its counterparts is that hydraulic presses are often smaller but compress just as much material. These benefits have given hydraulic presses many functions including:

  • Creating Car Parts (Mirrors, Brake Pads, Floor Mats, and more)
  • Destroying Cars
  • Sword Making
  • Creating Appliances (Refrigerators, Microwaves, and more)
  • Creating Ceramics
  • Forming Aircraft Parts (Wipers, Airplane Body, Wings and more)

Types

There have been modifications to these machines as usage has increased over time. Here are two specific types of hydraulic presses and their specific uses.

Arbor Presses

These machines are used for light-work pressing for finer details such as inscriptions or puncturing holes into metal.

C-Frame Presses

These hydraulic presses are unique for being designed in the C-shape to give workers more mobility around the machine.

As time continues and technology advances, the usefulness of these machines will only increase, especially as the world moves into a future more dependent on technology.

Welcome to Streaming 2 Business!

The world we live in today is driven by business. America is truly a capitalist nation. Politicians argue over whether small, local businesses or large corporations are better for the economy. And you know what? I'm not an expert on any of this, so I can't really say who is right. But the world of business is a fascinating one for me, especially since we can't escape interacting with it, no matter who you are. That's why I started this blog. So whether you're a communist or capitalist, a buyer or barterer, read on. I hope you can learn something about various types of businesses here on my site.
